Annual Food And Non-food Inflation, May 2026 (%)

Annual food inflation for May 2026 was recorded at 6.9 percent compared to 7.3 percent in April 2026. This means on average prices of food items increased by 6.9 percent between May 2025 and May 2026. This was mainly attributed to price movements in prices of food items such as Cereals (Breakfast Mealie meal, Roller mealie meal, Maize grain, Rice imported, Wheat Plain Household Flour); Vegetables (Green Beans, Green pepper, Dried beans, Sweet potatoes); Sugar, Cooking oil and Eggs.

The annual non-food inflation for May 2026 was recorded at 6.1 percent compared to 6.0 percent in April 2026. This outturn was mainly attributed to price movements in prices of non-food items such as Phamarceuticles Products (Cafenol, Aspirin, Paracetamol, No cough,  Magnesium Trisilicate, Tetracycline, Multivitamin ); Fuels and lubricants (Diesel , Paraffin, Engine oil , Lubricants

(brake fluids)) and Hammer milling charge (see Figure 2).
