ZAMBIA WINS THE BID TO HOST THE 67th ISI WORLD STATISTICS CONGRESS- 2029

Zambia has been nominated to host the 67th International Statistics Institute (ISI) World Statistics Congress to be held in July 2029 at the Mulungushi International Conference Centre in Lusaka. The announcement was made during the just ended 65th ISI World Statistics Congress held in The Hague, Netherlands from 5th to 9th October 2025.
The ISI is the leading global independent organisation that promotes the advancement of statistics and data science worldwide. The institute also provides a platform which brings together all leaders and experts in statistics, data scientists, academia, Government, and the private sector to share knowledge, network, and discuss current and future trends in the discipline. Zambia will be the second country in Africa to host a World Statistics Congress since 2009. The decision follows a rigorous assessment and Zambia is one of two countries in Africa that were assessed between 15th and 17th May 2025 to host the 2029 World Statistics Congress. Zambia Statistics Agency (ZamStats), supported by Zambia Tourism Agency (ZTA) proved to be an excellent option to support the ISI in organizing the 67th ISI World Statistics Congress in 2029 as it did with the successful hosting of the 17th IAOS and 3rd ISI Regional Conference in April 2023, in Livingstone.
The decision to nominate Zambia to host the global congress demonstrates an acknowledgement and recognition of its contribution to the development of statistics in Africa as well as at global level. This nomination provides ZamStats with a great opportunity to strengthen its statistical leadership role in the National Statistical System in Zambia. The Agency is ready to host one of this global Statistical event and will play a pivotal role in the organisation of the Congress. Statistics are the bedrock of national development planning and monitoring. In our increasingly complex and data-driven world, reliable and timely statistics are not just academic pursuits, but indispensable tools for informed decision-making, effective policy formulation, and genuine sustainable development.
Our nation is committed to advancing the field of statistics, underpinned by a solid legal backing (Statistics Act No.13 of 2018). We understand the critical role of data in achieving the National, Regional and Sustainable Development Goals and we are dedicated to fostering an environment where innovation in data science, statistical methodologies, and international cooperation can flourish.
