Bauleni Special Needs School Pays ZamStats a visit
The Zambia Statistics was privileged to have hosted Bauleni Special Needs school Grade 12 pupils on a statistical educational tour on 14th February 2025 at its Head office in Lusaka accompanied by Mrs. Yvonne Namwinga Makungo, Head of Mathematics Department.
Welcomed by the Head of Dissemination, Ms Etambuyu Lukonga and some Statisticians, the pupils were educated on the role of ZamStats as well as fundamental concepts of data collection, analysis, interpretation, organization and data presentation in a way that is accessible and enjoyable. This was in line with one of the functions of the Institution in increasing statistical literacy among various users. This education tour demonstrated to the learners the important role that statistics play in our everyday lives and the processes undertaken in statistical production.
The visit not only highlighted the agency’s role in national development but also emphasized the relevance of statistics in various sectors, such as health, education, and economics.
Asked on what they learnt from the visit, the pupils expressed happiness on what they had learnt, relating it to what they have been learning. One of the learners said “I am very happy to be here today because I have learnt the difference between a census and a survey, what type of surveys are conducted and what the data produced is used for and who uses this data. I only knew that ZamStats conducts the Census only but now I know so many things”.
In closing, the Acting Statistician General Mrs Sheila S. Mudenda delivered an inspiring message that encouraged the pupils to stay focused and emphasized the importance of determination in achieving their goals. She urged both boys and girls to strive for excellence in all their endeavors and to always put forth their best effort.
