ZamStats Showcases Official Statistics at the 2026 Zambia International Trade Fair

The Zambia Statistics Agency (ZamStats) proudly participated in the 2026 Zambia International Trade Fair (ZITF), reaffirming its commitment to promoting statistical literacy and enhancing public awareness of the critical role official statistics play in Zambia’s national development.

Held under the theme “Bridging Markets, Building the Future,” this year’s Trade Fair provided an excellent platform for ZamStats to engage with a diverse range of stakeholders, including Government institutions, private sector organisations, students, researchers, entrepreneurs, development partners, and members of the general public.

Throughout the exhibition, the ZamStats stand welcomed hundreds of visitors who were eager to learn more about the Agency’s mandate and the importance of official statistics in supporting evidence-based decision-making. Visitors interacted with technical staff, explored a variety of statistical publications and digital products, and gained valuable insights into how official statistics inform national planning, policy formulation, investment decisions, academic research, and sustainable development.

One of the most memorable highlights of the exhibition was the enthusiastic participation of pupils and students. Their curiosity and eagerness to learn about statistics underscored the growing importance of statistical literacy among young people. Through engaging discussions, interactive quizzes, and demonstrations, ZamStats introduced learners to key statistical concepts, the Population and Housing Census, household and business surveys, and the indispensable role of data in shaping Zambia’s future.

Visitors also had the opportunity to learn more about the Agency’s flagship statistical programmes and products, including:

Population and Housing Census data;
Consumer Price Index (Inflation) statistics;
Labour and Employment Statistics;
Gross Domestic Product (GDP) and National Accounts;
Agriculture and Crop Forecast Surveys;
International Trade Statistics;
Environmental and Social Statistics; and
The Monthly Bulletin and other official statistical publications.

The Trade Fair further provided a valuable opportunity for ZamStats to engage stakeholders on strategic national statistical initiatives, including the ongoing Gross Domestic Product (GDP) Rebasing Exercise. Through these engagements, the Agency demonstrated how high-quality, timely, and reliable statistics support economic planning, policy development, investment decisions, and the monitoring of Zambia’s development agenda.

To enhance visitor engagement, ZamStats hosted interactive knowledge-sharing sessions and quizzes, with participants receiving branded souvenirs as tokens of appreciation while deepening their understanding of the Agency’s work and services.

The Agency also used the exhibition to strengthen partnerships with both public and private sector institutions, fostering greater collaboration in the production and use of official statistics for national development.

ZamStats extends its sincere appreciation to everyone who visited the stand throughout the exhibition. The overwhelming interest and positive engagement reaffirm the Agency’s commitment to making official statistics more accessible, relevant, and understandable to all citizens.

As the 2026 Zambia International Trade Fair comes to a close, ZamStats remains steadfast in its mandate to produce and disseminate quality, timely, and reliable official statistics that empower Government, businesses, researchers, development partners, and the public to make informed decisions that contribute to Zambia’s sustainable development.

We thank everyone who visited the ZamStats stand and contributed to making the 2026 Zambia International Trade Fair a resounding success. We look forward to continuing our journey of advancing statistical literacy and supporting national development through trusted official statistics.
