ZamStats Releases February 2025 Statistical Highlights

 

 

Zambia Statistics Agency (ZamStats) has successfully Disseminated the Statistical highlights for the month of February, 2025.

Presented by the ZamStats Acting Statistician General Mrs. Sheila S. Mudenda earlier today, the update revealed that the Annual inflation for February 2025 increased to 16.8 percent from 16.7 percent recorded in January, 2025. This means that on average, prices of goods and services increased by 16.8 percent between February 2024 and February 2025.

She added that food inflation rose to 20.6% in February 2025 from 19.2% in January 2025, driven by price increases in key categories such as bread and cereals, meat, fish, and fruit, while non-food inflation decreased to 11.7% in February 2025 from 13.2% in January 2025. The decrease in non-food inflation was mainly due to lower prices for household appliances, air travel, and hotel accommodations.

PROVINCIAL INFLATION

The A/ SG noted that in February 2025, annual inflation by province showed that Eastern, Lusaka, Northern, and North-Western provinces recorded increases in annual inflation, while it decreased in Central, Copperbelt, Luapula, Southern, and Western provinces.

INTERNATIONAL TRADE DEVELOPMENTS

On International Trade Development, Mrs. Mudenda revealed that in January 2025, total trade decreased by 8.9% to K52.2 billion from K57.3 billion in December 2024. Further a deficit of K0.3 billion was recorded in January 2025 compared to a deficit of K3.3 billion recorded in December 2024.

REFINED COPPER EXPORTS

Further, she reported that Export earnings from refined copper decreased by 5.8% from K19.8 billion in December 2024 to K18.7 billion in January, 2025.
